Judith S. Pinnolis is the
RIS Humanities Librarian at the Goldfarb Library at Brandeis University and current Past President of the Association of College and Research Libraries, New England Chapter. Pinnolis is also the incoming Chair of the Chapters Council of ACRL.

B.A., cum laude, in Music from Newcomb College of Tulane University (1975). Her graduate Thesis was: An Analysis of Selected Works of the American Composer Miriam Gideon (1906- ) in Light of Contemporary Jewish Musical Trends.
Pinnolis has been active in music librarianship through speaking at international conferences, professional organizations and writing. Her Jewish music scholarship extends to journals and encyclopedias including Encyclopedia Judaica (2006); Women and Music in America Since 1900: An Encyclopedia (2002); and Reader's Guide to Judaism (2000). Pinnolis is also a contributor to the forthcoming 4th edition of the A Basic Music Library: Essential Scores and Sound Recordings published by the American Library Association.
Pinnolis has served Brandeis in various positions since 1992. For years, she headed the Library publications, and served as editor of the Brandeis Library Guide, and Introduction to Brandeis University Libraries. She also published Library Guides to Research including: Guide to Yiddish Studies; Guide to Biographical Information; Citing Your Sources; Finding Book Reviews; English and American Literature; Poetry, Short Stories, Philosophy, Fantasy and Science Fiction Guide, Linguistics; Psychology; Guide to American Studies; and the Guide to American History.
She is very active in professional library organizations. In addition to serving as President of ACRL/NEC, she also served as Chair of the ACRL/NEC Continuing Education Committee; National Chair of the Jewish Music Roundtable of MLA; Webmaster for the national MLA Website; and is a member of the Association of Jewish Libraries; Association of Jewish Studies and the World Union of Jewish Studies. She has been a member of the American Society for Jewish Music for over 30 years.
In 1997, Pinnolis began the Jewish Music WebCenter which she created and designed. She currently maintains this large academic website along with an active Jewish music announcements blog. The website also includes academic research guides such as Starting Research in Jewish Music and the online biographical reference resource: Women and Jewish Music biographical webpages.
Pinnolis received an award in 1991-92, the Golden Reel Award from the National Federation of Community Broadcasters, for Days of Awe: Music of the Jewish High Holy Days, which she produced and wrote for American Public Radio, and which aired on National Public Radio stations nationwide. Judy enjoys playing viola and piano with friends and in small ensembles. She's the mother of two grown sons, and lives in Newton, MA with her husband Ari Davidow, a Hebrew typographer, computer scientist and editor of The Klezmershack.com website. In addition to loving music and libraries (she even visits new ones on vacations!), Pinnolis does intricate needlework and is an ardent summer 'beach bum'.
I hope you enjoy this website as much as I enjoy being at the beach!
Best wishes from Newton, Massachusetts
