Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Center and New York Festival of Song (NYFOS, www.nyfos.org ) will present Great American Songwriting Teams, an evening of famous and rarely-heard songs honoring the genius of America¹s classic collaborators, on Tuesday and Thursday November 17 and 19 at 8 PM at Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Center. Merkin Concert Hall is at 129 West 67th Street (between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenues), New York, NY 10023. The artists for Great American Songwriting Teams will be: Jason Graae, deemed ³A master of humorous song² by The New York Times; two-time Grammy Award-winning theater/cabaret star Sylvia McNair, who the New York Observer called ³Thrillingly adept at exploring the subtext of song²; and Broadway¹s popular Mary Testa, the Tony Award-nominee recently called ³Absolutely fab² by Entertainment Weekly. NYFOS co-founder and Artistic Director Steven Blier, ³A national treasure when it comes to the art of song (The New York Times) will serve as pianist, host and arranger.

Great American Songwriting Teams will also be presented November 13 at 7:30pm at the Terrace Theater at The Kennedy Center, under the auspices of The Vocal Arts Society of Washington, D.C. For this performance, the exciting young mezzo-soprano Liza Forrester, soon to make her New York City Opera debut in L¹Etoile, will replace Ms. McNair. Second Songs of Life Choral-Orchestral Festival in Bulgaria

The Second Songs of Life Choral-Orchestral Festival will take place in Bulgaria and Israel, Dec. 27, 2010 – Jan. 7, 2011. The festival will feature the WORLD PREMIERE performance of a newly commissioned oratorio depicting the inspiring story of the rescue of the Jews of Bulgaria during World War II.

Hundreds of singers accompanied by professional philharmonic orchestra will perform the oratorio in celebration of a poignant historical moment. In addition to the world premiere of the oratorio, all performances will include a program specially selected by the Festival conductors.

The original work by Composer Charles David Osborne and Librettist Aryeh Finklestein features conductors Dr. Joshua Jacobson, Director of the Zamir Chorale of Boston, and Professor Henry Leck, Director of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir.

The internationally renowned cellist Ralph Kirshbaum honors the memory of his late teacher Lev Aronson (1912-1988), a Holocaust survivor who played for many years with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, with a rare New York recital. Mr. Kirshbaum will perform compositions by Aronson as well as works by some of the artists who influenced him.

The program will also feature a reading by author Frances Brent from her critically acclaimed new book, The Lost Cellos of Lev Aronson (Atlas & Co.).
