KLEZMER-PARIS 2006 in July

The Parizer yidish-tsenter - Medem Bibliotek is pleased to inform all lovers of Klezmer music, Yiddish song, dance... and also junior musicians that, this year, our 4th annual klezfest "KLEZMER-PARIS 2006" is going to be held in Paris, July, 6 to 10.

This intensive training course is for those who wish to develop their playing style and share this pleasure with others musicians so that Klezmer is not only concert music, but stays a living and popular music.

PROGRAM
Music, songs and dance workshops, conferences, master classes, jam, performances... Some of those will be open to all (musicians and non-musicians).

COURSE TEAM DAVID KRAKAUER : clarinet founder of David Krakauer's Klezmer Madness , he guests numerous groups including the prestigious Kronos Quartet.

JOSH DOLGIN (alias DJ SoCalled): accordion, piano, machines (beats, loops, samples) manipulator of digital and analogical rhythms, he has made himself the champion of an improbable yiddish hip-hop from Montreal to New York!

YANKL FALK: clarinet, voice member of the hungarian group Di Naye Kapelye he is also the director of a number of bands and a consultant in the theatre and movie industry.

BOB COHEN: fiddle, mandolin went to Hungary to do research on the musical history of the carpathian region. He created the Di Naye Kapelye & Budapest Klezmer Band groups and has played with Budowitz .

SHURA LIPOVSKY: voice, dance is recognized by her peers as one of the major artists of yiddish songs which she contextualises historically to illustrate their place in yiddish culture. Shell will also conduct a dance course in hasidic wisdom through movement, as she has already done in Europe, Russia, United States and Canada.

JOSHUA HOROWITZ : accordion, cymbalom now with Veretski Pass and formerly with Budowitz , he is the ethno-musicologist and theoretician of his generation.

SUZAN WATTS : trumpet from the 4th. generation of a klezmer family, she has played alongside the stars of klezmer and leads the Fabulous Shpilkes group.

MARTHE DESROSIERES:flute, picolo, clarinet music workshop coordinator, she will help initiate the younger players to this music.

WORKSHOP OPEN TO ALL
Courses in French and English

Musicians: for those with sufficient mastery of their instruments to be able to be at ease learning of music. Sheet music will be provided but the work will be done by ear.

Singers: who will be able to further their knowledge of yiddish folklore, of the Hazanut , and of the interaction between yiddish songs and klezmer music. Special workshop.

Dancers: all levels, beginners to professional.

Juniors: specific classes of music, song and dance reserved to the young (9/13 years old) with a minimum of 3 years instrumental experience. Participants need to bring their own instruments and parents are also invited to participate in their classes.

SCHEDULE
Days: 10am- 6pm.
Evenings: meetings, film projections, jam sessions, end of course party...
