And for Purim: Esther - The Salvation of Israel by Esther, Hebrew Oratorio in
three acts (1774). Libretto by Rabbi Jacob Raphael Saraval of Mantua and
Venice, composed by the Italian CG Lidarti. In the summer of 1998 an extensive
and hitherto unknown Hebrew manuscript score of this 18th century oratorio was
discovered in the Cambridge University Library. It was performed for the first
time in Europe at the Montpellier Festival in 2003, where it was also recorded
with the Orchestre National de Montpellier and conductor Freidemann Layer.
